Trading Summary & International Banking

The Fylkirate of Svipjoth, while officially considering its economy governed by both socialism and autarky, does trade excess products in return for what are considered non-essential, or luxury, items. As per its policy of autarky, the Fylkirate of Svipjoth bans any commercial importation of products considered essential.

The following products are the top 10 exports that Svipjoth trades, in order of quantity:

  1. Mineral fuels including oil (27.6%)
  2. Iron, steel (18.1%)
  3. Fish (12.4%)
  4. Aluminum, nickel (11.8%)
  5. Wool, leather (9.5%)
  6. Meat (6.2%)
  7. Mechanical machinery, equipment (5.9%)
  8. Animal fats, oils, waxes (4.8%)
  9. Wood (2.6%)
  10. Ships, boats (1.1%)

In terms of imports, there are only one accepted type of trade: the Foreign Imports Bureau (FIB). A sub-department of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Imports Bureau, establishes and enforces a strict importation contract, in which foreign businesses must apply through if they wish for any importations that are considered non-essential and non-threatening to Svipjoth’s economic independence (goods, services, and physical storefronts). Some examples include: rubber, tea, coffee, sugar, cocoa, tobacco, tropical fruits and vegetables, ivory, exotic furs, spices, and fine gems. These imports are limited to a specified quantity and only legal to sell at international stores or otherwise listed exceptions.

ALL APPROVED GOODS, SERVICES, AND BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS BY THE FOREIGN IMPORTS BUREAU:

The National Bank of Svipjoth offers no-interest, seven year loans (since usury is a sin in Grjotgardism) to foreign government customers. However, there are many rules and conditions in both being eligible for the loan and in payment:

  • Foreign governments that have a state religion of anything defined as heathen according to The Ranks of Correctness eligible for the loan on the condition that ordained missionaries from The Grjotgardian Church have complete access and unrestricted ability to preach the faith and perform conversions for the duration of the loan. Heretical nations are eligible without this missionary requirement.
  • The size of a loan is varied, but it cannot be so unreasonably large that it cannot be paid within the seven year duration, as calculated by The National Bank of Svipjoth.
  • Goods and products are accepted as payment at production value (e.g. if a pair of shoes sells for $40, but needs $10 for production, it is worth $10 in loan repayment) alongside money.
  • If the loan is not paid on time, The Fylkirate of Svipjoth, as the owner of the state-owned National Bank of Svipjoth, reserves the legal right to forcibly take back any remaining debt, including but not limited to the seizure of trading vessels.
